All about George Garner
I have had an interest in knives for as long as I can remember. Even as a youngster I would fashion a knife or a sword out of a piece of wood or cardboard or anything else that would hold the shape for that matter. Whether you were sailing on the Seven Seas or exploring in some deep dense jungle you could always depend on your trusty blade to keep you out of danger. As the years passed and I grew older I bought, sold and collected knives.
In the late 1960’s I joined the U.S. Army where I resided in some interesting places for the next three years. After my tour I came back home to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1974 I met a wonderful lady and married her in 1974. It’s hard to believe that she still keeps me around to this day. I tried my hand at being a silversmith for about four years and fabricated a lot of jewelry and met a lot of very talented artists during this time period.
Around the year 2000 my interest in knives resurfaced and I thought I would try fabricating some blades of my own. I began to read everything I could on the art of making knives. When I was able to attend a show I would talk to the knife makers and pick their brains. I found that most knife makers are eager to share their knowledge with you. Being pretty much self taught and after much trial and error and a lot of blades that never made it past the belt grinder I eventually started producing some good looking and usable blades.

Once I began putting out some nice fixed blades I realized that they all needed sheaths. At this point I took a couple of leatherworking classes and I am now able to make a custom sheath for each fixed blade knife that I produce. After making this style of knife for awhile I decided to try making a folder. I became fascinated by the mechanics of folding knives. The sound they make when the blade opens and the blade lock engages and the way that a smooth, sleekly shaped handle feels in your hand just can’t be beat. I still make the occasional fixed blade but I am concentrating more on folding knives at this point in time. I use the finest materials that I can find to fashion my knives. I use Pearl, Abalone, Mammoth Tooth, Mammoth Ivory, Mosaic Damascus and various high quality woods for my handles. The blade steels that I use are 1095/15n20 Damascus, 440-C, ATS34 and CPM154. I am also a proud member of the Professional Knifemakers Association.
